Our 2018 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc has been handcrafted by winemaker Melissa Kuhn of the Russian River Valley as a tribute to the fearless Suffragette fighters. Two dollars ($2) from every bottle sold will go to support the League of Women Voters.
With its big luscious nose with casaba melon, nectarine, vanilla, and lychee the wine is dry and satin at the palate with a finish of silky texture and lingering Babcock peach flavors.
Melissa Kuhn received her college education at St. Olaf College, a small private college in Minnesota. She earned a B.A. in Biology, graduating in 1990. After completing her degree, she used her skills in laboratory analyses to get a position in the environmental science industry.
She moved to Sonoma County in 2005, where she worked as a lab intern and fell in love with the wine industry. This led to a permanent lab position in 2006 at Owl Ridge Wine Services, a custom-crush winery in Sebastopol.
After nearly six years in this role, Melissa was named Production Manager at Owl Ridge, working under John Tierney, Taft Street’s first winemaker. She was responsible for the winery’s day-to-day operations, and this acquainted her with nearly two-dozen prominent Sonoma County winemakers. Consequently, by observing and implementing their winemaking directions, Melissa learned a variety of winemaking techniques. Melissa was promoted to Winemaker at Taft upon the retirement of her predecessor, Evelyn White, in 2017.
When she is not at the winery, Melissa enjoys cooking, reading, hiking, kayaking, and camping with her husband and three adult children.
