After enduring years of raids on bars catering to LGBTQ people in New York City, the community had reached the breaking point. When police raided Stonewall Inn on June 28, 1969, patrons refused to cooperate. As more police wagons arrived, the crowd outside the bar grew larger, and rioting broke out as those gathered refused to accept continued harassment by authorities. Fifty years later, Stonewall Inn is considered the home of Gay Pride, and World Pride takes place in New York in June 2019 to celebrate this significant turning point in the modern LGBTQ rights movement.
Equality Vines honors the impact and magnitude of this historic event with the release of our 2016 Stonewall Zinfandel. Graced with a screen-printed image of shattered glass, our special Stonewall 50th anniversary commemorative bottle echoes the anger of this historic night and the challenges the LGBTQ community continues to endure.
